I was astounded yesterday to see this video of a man challenging the Federal Reserve and Ben Bernanke. The brash boldness and matter-of-fact style of this man captivated me, and caused me to look up exactly who this guy is:
Evidently, Jim Rodgers is one of the more successful investors of our time. He has done it through a couple of core ideas and principles.
First of all, Rodgers is a strict adherent of free-market capitalism - and not the sort of status-quo “managed capitalism” in America. He’s talking about industrial era completely unregulated explosive growth capitalism. He frequently disagrees with the host of CNBC’s Kudlow and Company - a show who’s matra is “We believe that free market capitalism is the best path to prosperity” in favor of actual unregulated capitalism.
In light of this, he has completely relocated to Singapore and is unabashedly bullish on Asian markets - especially China. He has declared that moving to Singapore is “like moving to New York City in 1908.”
Rodgers has made his money with a few simple investment standards: international mutual funds, commodities, Asian markets and staying far, far away from American investments and currency.
After “retiring” in 1980, Rodgers has been quite the avid world-traveler. He took a motorcycle over 100,000 miles through six continents. More recently, he had a custom Mercedes built, which he and his fiancee took around the world on a three-year trip covering six continents. Both are in the Guinness Book of World Records.

This dude is awesome.
