I'm sorry, did he just say "let the government be the market" when there is no market for a product and "create the kind of demand that lowers prices"? What was he smoking in college?

But Colin, it IS a "Free Market" if the government pays for it!! I mean, after all, I didn't pay for it, so therefore it's FREE!!

It still amazes me everyday that these shills running for government actually call themselves "conservative" with comments such as this. I think the Republican party's platforms are all modern-interpretation of social-based ideas, because fiscally they have no relationship with conservatism of any sort. Which is why they oppose Ron Paul so much...he is fiscally conservative, and mostly opposite of all of them on a social level as well. LOOK EVERYONE! IT'S OPPOSITE DAY!

Hardly opposite of all of them socially. That's just an exaggeration. Thompson is very solid socially, as is Huckabee and Romney. Thompson has to kick it gear, he's one of the most thoughtful candidates of the group. Huck is just full of platitudes, lies, and smoking bans. If I were given the choice of Hillary versus Romney, I could vote for Romney. He may be weak in some areas, but he is solid on the social issues, and actually isn't living in a dream world on the foreign policy issues. Furthermore, Romney is a class act and has character. Anyone who is a self-made man in the business world and has been married to the same woman for 30 years says something.

Well, yes, it was an exaggeration. I'm just saying that many of the libertarian social views are quite opposite the current conservative views. Though, to be honest, they aren't really opposite, as much as "going about a different method". Like instead of "for or against gay marriage" it is "get the government out of marriage". Instead of "for or against drug legalization" it's "laws against what you can do to yourself are pointless". Like I said, while Ron Paul may share many of the same views as the other candidates on a personal level, he just wants to keep federal government out of 99% of them. So in that way, he is indeed opposite.

To be honest, most of the candidates are self-made men who have stayed married to their wives. Well, except Guiliani. And well, we all don't like him anyways.
