This has been a very encouraging and uplifting review. Sadie and I have ordered the book and plan on going through it together. It seems to address a lot of the things that are important to us, but that we have also had some difficulties and questions about. Thanks for doing such a thorough review.

I think the definition of weak brothers is a good one and makes more sense than the way we often think of them as "people who are offended by things other believers feel free to do." It is probably also good to think of weak brothers in terms of Christian practices and not in terms of theology.

Thanks Jasen.

I admit that there is some pragmatic attraction to the book because it seems that it would reduce some lingering stress from the somewhat "traditional" view in which both my wife and I have been instructed. We are needing to make decisions right now about several major areas in our life: 1) where to live 2) what to do for a job 3) what school for me to go to and 4) whether to join a local church where we move or to start a home fellowship. These are major decisions that will all have to be made within a short time of each other (so it seems). So in that sense, the wisdom view would seem to fit our situation. However, I will need to read the book because while Jasen has done a thorough review, I am not going to shift my thinking without a careful examination of the evidence. I am hopeful though!

That reminds me of something I forgot to mention. The authors make it clear at the end that they don't want people who have operated according to the traditional view to follow the wisdom view until they are fully convinced that it's the correct biblical approach (so they don't go against their conscience).
